It's my fault. I should have taken off the snow tires, which would have guaranteed a big-dumping nor'easter!
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

Intermittent snowflakes, sleet, hail here in Waterville Valley. Looks like a great day for tomorrow so I'm heading up Cannon.

In praise of multicultural diversity in precipitation types

What to my wondering eyes should appear this morning but some of the largest examples of graupel that I have seen recently:

Graupel always makes me smile, as it reminds me of past times in the mountains. It often signals some serious weathermaking in progress, the sort of allegedly adverse stuff that I enjoy.

p.s. We had sleet before the graupel this morning as well.

Forecast has improved for Bethel. Only a 40% chance of wintry mix today. It looks like most of the action will be in eastern Maine. I guess the system changed course overnight. Tomorrow is calling for 45F and sun in my area with lighter winds.

    Only 14 hiking days left

The sun is out in Freeport. I'll be on Wildcats in the AM. Looks like the ski trails and nt the ridge trail but I really want to get them in this winter and only 14 hiking days left...

saturday AM in F-Notch cool & windy with summits socked in. By the time we reached the tower on Cannon, sunny & Windy with only Lafeyette in the clouds.

By the time we were on the lower switchbacks below the lake, all summits were in the clear. My best day weather wise since October as far as views went. (two November days + one Day in each month, Dec, Jan & Feb)
    Have fun & be safe
