Trail Conditions: As reported variously, trails well consolidated. Corn snow on very firm base, turning to mashed potatoes over the same firm base with the sun. Able to bare boot the whole hike with no guilt--a couple postholes, but all off the monorail.

The caretaker from the hut at Carter Notch has been going wild with spring cleaning. On 19 Mile Brok Trail on the way in there was some blowdown. It was gone by the time I left. Recent trailwork was obvious in a number of spots: not one bit of blowdown to slow you down. Thank you!

Special Equipment: Brought snowshoes, never put them on. Left the crampons in the pack (don't bother). Many folks in microspikes.

Comments: WOW what a day to be out for a hike. Route was 19 Mile Brook to Carter Dome to Zeta Pass, Carter Dome Trail to Carter Dome, Back on Appalachian Trail (Carter-Moriah) to Hight, and down.

The forecast from Mt. Washington was wrong: NO WIND, and not even a few clouds. Spectacular blue sky. Snow fleas were having a ball (they so love the postholes). Even some green moss and grass on the little brooks on the south slopes. So, all trails in great condition, snow is excellent, and the views today from the trails and the top were great. A++

Very nice to meet VFTT Ellen (eruggles), who was resplendent in her custon VFTT cap, and her friend Brian.
