Trail Conditions:
There was a solid snowshoe track all the way to within a few tenths of a mile from Cabot’s main summit. I cannot report on conditions further up the trail since my friend Steve & I left the trail at this point to bushwhack to the massive talus field at the southern end of Cabot.
On the outbound leg of the on-trail portion of our trek, we were able to bareboot on a hard-frozen track for a couple of miles, then as the sun softened the snow we switched to snowshoes. On the return leg, the snowshoe track still held its integrity, but was slippery and so we wore snowshoes for the entire trek back to the trailhead. Many of the snow bridges were barely holding on, and it’s doubtful if many of them will survive the warmer weather and rain that’s predicted over the next day or so.
