Pierce/Eisenhower/Monroe via Crawford Path 3-19-09
Date of Hike: 3-19-09
Trail Conditions: Hard packed snow up to Pierce. Ice in all the open areas between Pierce and Monroe. Snow in the tree covered areas between Pierce and Eisenhower was hard in the morning but soft and prone to postholing in the warm afternoon.
Special Equipment Required: Traction gear required. We sailed through the day without difficulty wearing microspikes. The 5 other folks we saw during the hike were all wearing crampons.
Comments: The winter hiking season ended on a beautiful note. Conditions were excellent in the southern prezis today.....clear skies and plenty of warm sun. Winds were high.....around 40 mph all day above treeline.....but temps were pretty mild.
