Date of Hike: Wed 4-29-09
Trails: Dicey's Mill
Trail was dry and clear to about 3200 before some intermittent icy patches. The stream crossing was easily done over a log. From the Jct. of The Rollins Trail to the summit there was an icy rail.
It was 90 degrees yesterday and this morning the snow was frozen as hard as a rock. Very little snow left in the woods. The rail is only about 12 to 18 inches thick. Leave your snow shoes at home.
Some form of light traction (crampons would be an over kill) would be helpful because there are some icy patches, but enough bare rocks and ground to navigate around.
Oh where Oh where are all the hikers? I had the trail again to myself today. What a nice day and nobody on the trail.
