Pinkham Notch parking this summer

USFS has begun reconstruction of the parking lot at Pinkham, the old Rt. 16 roadbed. No work on weekends or holidays.

Speculation on my part, is that this work is a leftover from the agreements and studies that AMC had made based on the results of the Huts EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) from several years ago. At the time, it was identified that storm water run off from the parking lot was flowing south directly into the brook which was causing siltation issues. I expect that there was also some potential carryover of motor oil from some of the "beater" motor vehicles.

I expect the biggest impact may be on the south end of the lot, but it sure would be nice to put in some painted lines showing diagonal parking to prevent SUV's from parallel parking and eating up all th space.
