A Round Trip Hike on The Appalachian Trail... 13.6 Miles
Section: Outlook Ave (Cheshire) to Mount Greylock Summit.
Trail Conditions: All blowdowns have been cleared since
the last time I visited this section on 4/27/09. My thanks
to the AMC Berkshire Chapter and other crews for an
incredible clean-up job as it was a REAL MESS!
Bird sightings: chickadees, juncos, cedar waxwings,
woodpeckers, wild turkeys
Also: chipmunks, red squirrels, various butterflies
Bugs were at a minimum due to the cool wind on
Saddleball Ridge and Greylock.

Oh yeah.. about that moose!
In my 17 years of taking this route to Greylock I've never seen
one here. On the way up to Greylock I noticed what looked
like moose droppings on the trail but thought no more about it.
On the way back near the Jones Nose Trail junction I was
rambling down the trail and suddenly heard a loud thrashing
sound. I looked to my left and there he was. Amazing.
Up until now I never saw a moose anywhere except Maine
and New Hampshire. It was a nice treat at the end of a long day.
