Baxter and Hamlin Peaks 6/6/09, up Cathedral, down Hamlin Ridge

    Date of Hike: Saturday 6/6

Full route: Chimney Pond Trail from Roaring Brook to the Cathedral Trail to the Saddle Trail to the Baxter Peak summit. From Baxter Peak to Hamlin Peak via Saddle Trail, NW Basin Trail and Hamlin Ridge Trail. Hamlin Ridge Trail to N Basin Trail to Basin Pond cutoff, to Chimney Pond Trail, back to Roaring Brook.

Trail Conditions: excellent. No issues w/blowdowns or water crossings. No snow remains on these trails. Please note though that the Saddle Trail was still closed (lower section only, from Chimney Pond to the jct with the NW Basin Trail), due to lingering snow, and still may be. Call ahead before making plans.

Special Equipment Required: bug dope, sunscreen, water filter.

Comments: thanks to Rob B, Al B, Ron C, Bob C, Bill D, John G, Todd G, Len O, and Mike R, plus Russ C who went as far as Chimney Pond. Outstanding day.
