Trail conditions: Gale River trail a mixture of smooth sailing beaten path, slippery rock, and occaisional mud..nothing tooo bad..steps up to garfield Ridge a little dicey on descent. Brook crossings were no problem.. Garfield Ridge Trail better than it used to be but still some rough footing in spots..Frost Trail muddy and eroded in places

Equipment: pole handy..nothing came out of the pack but lunch

Comments; I was looking for a shorter morning type hike..Claude needed galehead for his 6th? round.. so a hike was formed..Driving through the Notch the skies were clear offering a faint hope of a good day despite the forcast.. the climb up was nice..a bit clammy and the views from the hut and the Frost lookouts were fine but the clouds thickened and lowered on descent and by the time we reached the upper brook crossing there was a bit of rain coming down..Scattered showers no big deal but we were glad to be back in the car by 130 as we drove through a couple of pretty good downpours on rt 3. Trail by an large in pretty good shape with lots of steps some of which were quite slippy..Not many people on the trails today and there was no one at the hut..
