On Saturday morning, August 1, Zak Berger and Ginger Smith left the Glencliff trailhead for a hike up Mt. Moosilauke.

Zak and Ginger had hiked many times together. They, in fact, had met on an AMC outing. But this Saturday would be different, because when they returned to the trailhead later that afternoon they were Zak and Ginger Berger. This was their wedding day and the summit of Mt. Moosilauke was the location they had chosen for that wedding. That choice had been made some time before when they had climbed that beautiful mountain late one afternoon and had arrived at sunset. The spectacle was so enthralling they knew then and there that that was the place the marriage would take place.

Along with twelve friends that made up the wedding party they made their way up the Glencliff trail. After a quick change of clothes just below the treeline, the bride and groom continued to the summit to join the rest of the party.

Having anticipated in advance that the mountain would be well occupied by many other hikers, the wedding party descended the Gorge Brook trail to the plateau just below the summit for the ceremony.

It was a magnificent day. The mountains were their cathedral. The sound of the wind and the birds their music. The white puffy clouds floating overhead their bridesmaids.

The vows, oh so intense, were legally made and when they sealed those vows with a kiss, the thirty some spectators who had respectfully remained at the summit broke out in applause. It was as if the mountain itself embraced them in its applause. The bride was radiant and slightly teary as befits every bride and the groom was glowing.

After a few toasts the party, led by the bride and groom, made its way back to the summit then continued on down to the trailhead.

Congratulations Zak and Ginger it was indeed a most memorable day as the wedding bells sounded triumphantly and resoundingly on on the great Mt. Moosilauke. :)

Congrats Zak & Ginger! What a fantastic celebration (and a great hike too). Thank you for sharing your special day with us.

congrats Zack and Ginger! It was so great to celebrate with you two and everyone else. Ed summed up the day perfectly, and delivered a beautiful service!

Thanks to all!

Ginger and I were thrilled with our wedding day atop Moosilauke. It was indeed a perfect day in so many ways and to share it in little ways with everyone on the mountain made it particularly special. Little things we didn't expect - word traveling up the trail with strangers wishing us well as we met up with them or the cheering from the onlookers on the summit as they watched from above -the balcony seats! No, our perplexed family members couldn't make the hike but we certainly felt that there was a mountain "family" presence there that only us mountain ramblers can truly understand.

Thank-you all for your good vibes and in sharing in our happiness on that one day out of hundreds on the mountain that we will remember forever. Ginger and I hope to meet many more of you on the trails. Drop us a line if you happen to be in the Mount Washington Valley area and perhaps we can do a hike with you...
