I had a chance to hear Washburn speak at MIT some time around 2000-2001, and he was hilarious and very interesting. Also just read about him in Forever on the Mountain, which painted a different side to him. I'm interested to see what this book has to say about his role in the Denali disaster. By the time he was interviewed by Forever on the Mountain he was either senile or didn't want to talk about it.
