Trail Conditions: Old Mast Road easy going along a leaf covered trail. Square Ledge had many mud spots, many downed trees and a surprising amount of snow.
Equipment needed: Poles very useful for the mucky spots and stream crossings. Plenty of warm clothes.
Comments: Cymbidium and I opted for a shorter 52wav hike today. I had never done Square Ledge and found the steep down at the beginning of the trail more than the book described! Going up by the cliffs was a challenge for Finn, the dog, who had to be lifted up one steep bit and then pulled down by the collar on the way down as he refused to try coming down on his own! Had some nice views from the ledge at the top but stopped just long enough for a quick snack due to cold winds and low temps.
