Conditions: Icy in places and very wet! This section of the trail from the northerly parking lot off of West Street has now become very eroded and wet. Looks as if it gets snowmobile or ATV traffic. I wore Micro Spikes which worked well early, but when it began to snow and the temperatures went up, the spikes gathered up snow underneath.

We chose this hike to get out after being sluggish around Christmas. So, we did get out for about three hours. Turned around when the snowflakes came down quickly.

My daughter loved photographing all the icy places, and the old car found upside down near where the trail comes up from Granite Street. I had planned an ambitious hike that went down to the reservoir in the Leominster State Forest. But, that part of the trail was a running brook.
