Trail Conditions: Zealand Road was plowed and has active logging; Zealand Trail is packed ski trail until the more open areas near the pond where drifting is more common. One or two downed trees but not a big obstacle. Twinway packed to hut. Above the hut, trail was drifted over. Broke out a route to the Zealand plateau with a few others I ran into; at times our route was east of the trail. Drifting, blowing snow on the plateau has surely already covered our tracks but where we broke out again from the shelter of the trees to the summit path and to the summit may remain a little while.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes essential above Zealand Hut on the Twinway. Useful in the 0.5 mile before the hut in drifted areas.

Comments: Started in light but steady snow that remained until late morning. Sun shone through for about 10 minutes at one point but otherwise cloudy. Cleared a little more by afternoon. Another great day in the snow.
