Very helpful and pleasant Saddleback ski personnel suggested Grey Ghost to Tricolor trails for ascent. Hike up was quick to treeline. The summit was socked in, very limited visibility of 10-15 feet and 50-60 mph winds, mildly cool temperatures. Because of the visibility we couldn't find the trail to Saddleback Horn--cairns and shrubs all looked like little snow lumps. Return down the hill was even quicker.

Special equipment: Crampons above treeline were also useful for the descent. Wind protection necessary on top. Carried but did not use snowshoes, although we never made it into the col between Saddleback and the Horn. Wands would have been helpful if accompanied by an electric drill to make holes in the ice for them.

There was beautiful sunshine and blue sky everywhere except the Saddleback massif, from what we could see later.
