Date of Hike:
2/21/10
Trail Conditions:
The east side of the mountain has filled in nicely. Folks have been cutting from the spruce to split rock as usual. Following these tracks on the descent could be problematic in low visibility on this featureless terrain.
The steep sections of the winter route is sketchy and icy in multiple locations. I obsured several folks having difficulties descending these sections. One spot there was a backup of a dozen folks for about 15 minutes while everyone negotiated these spots.
Special Equipment Required:
Crampons. Most folks seemed to use an axe on the steep winter route.
Comments:
Not much more to report. Just wanted to give a heads up on the winter route. I did have to fight the wind to tag the sign. Spent about 15 seconds on top before returning to the lee side.
