Trail condiotions: entire loop was fairly well broken though with softer snow in places. Just a few icy spots on the ridge but nothing major. Stream crossings were all solidly bridged over.
Equipment: most people used snowshoes at higher elevations. We put snowshoes for a short time above treeline and felt that barebooting would be easier/faster. We did not use any traction but encountered some slippery spots.
Comments: a rare windless and warm day above treeline. Dense fog with the sun on the ridge was creating strange optical effects. Visibility was changing from 20 feet to maybe 1/2 mile in minutes. Another beautiful and unusual day on Franconia ridge.
