Nineteen Mile Brook to Carter Notch Hut
Date of Hike: Sun 3/28/10
Trail Conditions: such hard packed snow that trail was icy in spots but softened up in afternoon sun. At least 18 inches of packed snow on the footbridges and 64 inches of a base at the hut. By end of the day you could see ground cover at the bottom of the trail near the trailhead.
Special Equipment Required: light traction essential - we used stabilicers.
Comments: windy at junction of Wildcat Ridge Trail and down by the hut. Beautiful sunshine on walks up/down. Such a lovely walk in the woods. Thanks to Mike the hutmaster and Leslie up from Pinkham AMC lodge for warming hospitality. Today's Mt Wash forecast was for rain, so the trail likely will be slick this week esp if it freezes up at night.
