has mud season started yet? The GMC website is unclear on this matter, as all it says is "early spring" to Memorial Day weekend.

I would say yes according to Squam Lakes Association who have closed the parking area to Mounts Morgan/Percival and West Rattlesnake trails. They have posted if you want to hike the trails, you must walk through all the puddles and mud [not avoid them].

The traditional GMC closure begins 4/15, but this year is a peculiar case. Practically speaking, mud season is entering full swing a few weeks ahead of schedule. Folks should please try to stay off sensitive trails.

As of Sunday in southern VT it's pretty muddy at lower elevations with a lot of running water. Above 1900' there's still pretty good snowpack.
