Trail Conditions Garden to Little Porter - patchy ice spine, used Stabilcers/Microspikes (keep reading). Little Porter to Porter summit - snowshoes for wet, wet, wet granular snow with patchy dirt and rocks. Porter back down to Little Porter - Even wetter , still snowshoes. Little Porter to Garden - rare, narrow ice spine, easily avoided, occasional slippery mud, bare boots.

Equipment After today, you will not need anything except snowshoes and gaiters, and poles if you like them.

Comments We oftern heard water running under the snow we were walking on. The one stream crossing that was open, beyond Little Porter, was manageable by stepping onto flat rocks that had shallow fast-moving water over them. One member of our party of four (2 generations), who hikes often and regularly in the High Peaks, winter and summer, found the wet snow extremely tiring, even with snowshoes.
