Date of Hike: Sunday, April 1
Trails: Old Bridle Path, Franconia Ridge, Falling Waters.
Trail Conditions: snow free to about 3500', packed snow above. The ridge had new snow drifts, bare rocks, and some ice. Water crossings were fine with some minimum agility.
Traction: microspikes at times, especially helpful on the upper FW trail. Snow was firm and slippery in places, no postholing.
Comments: spring in the valley, winter on the ridge, lifting clouds and fog on the ridge giving way to unexpected views. Had the entire ridge to ourselves, the trail was untracked but not too hard to follow. The wind was relatively light, maybe 40 mph max in places and mostly much below it.
