fall peak colors in adk high peaks

Anyone know when the fall colors should be at their peak this year? Last year was late, Columbus Day. My guess is this year might be early, in the next few weeks. We were up a week ago and some trees were starting to turn.

Any ideas?

A lot of the leaves are already changing in the High Peaks. My guess is they will reach peak within the next two weeks.

there were pockets of color this past weekend, but it was rather dull. I will be in Lake Placid again this weekend and will let you know if the colors have progressed further.

Ditto for me. I plan on hiking in the high peaks on Friday and Sunday so I will have a color update next week.

In a normal year, peak in the High Peaks is generally somewhere in the last few days of September through the first week of October. Last year it was late, because its been a cool and wet year for the most part, I'm going to guess it will probably be in the normal range once again. Columbus Day you may still find strong color even if peak does come on time because Columbus Day is early, so to speak, this year.
