may 1. started on saddleback. beautiful clear day. the horn is only 1.6 miles from sadlleback, but it took us over 1 1/2 hours each way. any exposed ledge area was either wet or icy. 4 to 5 forested areas on trail was heavy with snow. aprox 3 to 4 feet deep. lots of 3 inch trees snapped in half. must of been very heavy snows and much wind. it will be a pain, but bringing small snowshoes through these areas will save the trail and your legs. extra time required to take your snowshoes on and off and on and off will be worth it. we anticipate snow to be an issue for the next couple of weeks. great hike. d&d
