Monroe/Washington/Clay/Jefferson via Ammo/Crawford/Gulfside/Jewell

Date of Hike: 5-29-10

Trail Conditions: Patchy areas of snow on the ascent of Ammo but nothing that required traction or that really slowed progress. Scores of trees knocked down along the river running parallel with Ammo for the first mile on the ascent…. looked like an avalanche or an incredible wind storm did some awesome damage…..had some significant blowdowns to navigate in this area.
Except for one 100-yard snowfield on Crawford between Lakes & Washington, all trails above treeline were dry and nice.
Hit the remnants of a monorail descending Jewell, about a quarter mile in length from where treeline begins.

Special Equipment Required: Sunscreen and fluids.

Comments: Far off clouds threatened rain all day but it never materialized….very mild with a slight breeze and temps in the mid 50s most of the day. Lots of folks on the trails today, including a 50-member group from Ottawa.
