lake lila/mtn fredrica

How far can you drive this road. It looks like there is a gate 6miles in just before the lake and after the canoe access. I have a Toyota Rav4, not a huge ground clearance, but better than a car. is this road safe to take and how far can you drive?

Don't remember exactly how far in the road went, it was at least 6-7 miles, and we did it in a Honda Accord several years ago with no problems. What a beautiful, peaceful area. The view of Lake Lila from Mt. Frederica is superb.

Drove this road in a small Toyota pickup near the end of August without any problems.

The parking area/access point for Lake Lila is right before the gate. Access point is perhaps 1/4 mile from parking area.

You can walk the road past the gate to get to Mt Frederica, but canoeing across Lake Lila is the best way to go.

Spent the weekend paddling on Lila Labor Day weekend. After turning onto the Sabbatis Road from the highway, it's several miles (9?) back to the turn toward Lake Lila. Another 5.6 miles down a dirt road brings you to the parking area at the locked gate. You can carry your boat 5-10 minutes to the put-in and spend a wonderful day or weekend on the lake, or hike the road past the gate. Frederika is a high cliff overlooking the lake, and is an easy day hike from the parking area. Any car should be OK on that road.
