Nice half-day hike with kids. We started at the Mid-Burke parking lot, 1/4 mile below the toll station / campground HQ on the auto road. Quick jog up the mowed strip below the J-bar lift on climber's left of the wide ski slope to the CCC road, then ~.5 to .75 mile to the Red Trail / Blue Trail intersection. Climbed via Blue (West Peak), descended via Red. I'd recommend that way -- footing seems to work better in that direction.
Trails are generally well cleared & marked although there are a handful of fairly recent blowdowns present. None really obstruct travel although a few have generated little 'workaround' paths to avoid them. No water present above the CCC road; pack plenty. Lower lean-to is littered w/ beer cans, etc. Upper (summit of west peak) is in much better condition. Neither has an outhouse or a nearby water source, so overnight users need to plan well.
Views from summit firetower & various ledges on the way up the Blue Trail are far-reaching, varied, and appealing, especially southeast to the Whites and north to the Willoughby area.
Kids liked it.
