Flume & Liberty: Up Flume Slide & Down Liberty Spring Trails
Date of Hike: 7-17-10
Trail Conditions: Flume Slide Trail had many muddy spots but all were easily avoided. Good volume of water in the streams but crossings were all rock hoppable. Someone did a lot of work clearing Flume Slide Trail of its blowdowns….clear sailing from trailhead all the way to the Slide. Good portion of Slide was very wet & slick thanks to many active seep springs. Liberty Spring Trail was also blowdown-free….but much care required descending over rocks that have been left a bit slimy from all this humidity.
Special Equipment Required: Lots of fluids and poles for a safe descent.
Comments: Everyone else was tied up so had to do this one solo. Bugs were a bit of a nuisance in the boggy areas on the Flume Slide Trail. Lots of haze on the summits…..the breeze was actually chilly on Liberty. Left the car @ 4PM and got back @ 8:35PM.
