Trail Condition: Trail in good shape. Minimal mud. Perhaps could use a bit of light brushing out in a few places. Although Little River was not particularly high, crossings did require a bit of care and some wetting of the boots. (We chose to avoid the lower two crossings on the return by following the herd path along the east bank. Herd path is well-used, with a few blowdowns that are easily navigated.) Lovely views-from-the-top(s) and nice fellow-hikers (both human and canine) along the way.

Special Equipment: Poles helpful for the river crossings and the descent.

Note: The entrance to Haystack Road is not marked at all, and is easy to pass by if you are unfamiliar with the area. The only signs along the road refer to camping. The first indication that you are, indeed, in the right place is a little sign for North Twin Trail, tucked in the woods behind the kiosk at the trailhead.
