Last year, I attempted hiking the Sierra High Route with my buddy Ryan. After a week on the route and off trail, we realized that we didn't have enough time to finish our plan, so instead we "settled" for staying on the John Muir Trail.

This year, I decided to return to the Sierras and finish the southern portion of the JMT, the part that I didn't hike in 2009. Day 1 and part of Day 2 was a long 10 mile, 7000 foot climb to get up and over the crest. From there, I joined the JMT and hiked south through some amazingly beautiful terrain.

By far the highlight of the trip, though, was hiking to the top of Mt Whitney. After spending 5+ days in the Sierras, to climb to the summit and stand above all the mountains that just the day before seemed so large was an amazing feeling. Enough blabbing, here are the photos:

Chomp,

Congratulations! You've got some outstanding images there. What a great experience and nice accomplishment! Too bad the weather was so-so! ;)

Your summit photo (#143) was reminiscent of your summit pose on South Brother a few years back.
