In October, I am always drawn to the Evans Notch region of the Whites, for great hiking, motoring, and foliage. Today we hiked South and North Baldface clockwise. Up via Baldface Circle, with a side trip on the Chandler Gorge loop. Down via Bicknell Ridge, the Eagle Cascade cutoff, and back to the Baldface Circle trail, after a short side trip to Eagle Crag.

Light breeze, mild temps. Shorts and t-shirts for much of the day, and we still got sweaty, especially doing a shuffling semi trail run between the south and north peaks. So we took the plunge at Emerald Pool... ~~COLD~~ but very refreshing. We enjoyed a few well-earned apres hike refreshments at the trailhead, and we saw a cow moose and calf en route back to Fryeburg.

A few photos follow. The full gallery is available here.

Thanks to Kate for a great autumn day in the mountains!
