Trail Conditions:

Zealand Road plowed a few tenths past turn in snowmobile trail at bridge. Showing bare pavement by night-time in spots. Not much left to ski here until past the plowed section.

Zealand trail had a "fairly" consolidated, beaten out base all things considered. With a freeze, this may be in good shape.

Twinway to Zealand Mountain had been broken a few days ago but with very soft snow, it was like starting over again. Sinking 4-6 inches in snowshoes. One blowdown, a small one to get over. Broken out pretty well now with three others that were following.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes essential. Wore them nearly all day. Pack cover and waterproof light pants a plus; lots of dripping trees and falling wet snow from branches today.

Comments: Was packed for an overnight stay at Guyot Shelter, but the prospect of breaking two miles solo from Zealand Mountain over Mount Guyot was not in the cards. The snow was like wet cement and my legs were rubber by then. West Bond will wait for another winter's day. Bit of a slog out there.
