Mt Moosilauke via Glenciff & Carriage Road Trails.
Date of Hike: Sunday 30 Jan 2011

Trail Conditions: Glencliff trail well packed out to the summit. Still recommend snowshoes to keep trail in good condition. From Glencliff / Carriage Rd Trail junction to open treeline: the usual minor drifting. From open treeline to summit - more drifting, alternating with packed, thin crusty snow/ice, with constant wind obscuring path with blowing snow and freezing fog.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes / poles are probably the best bet. Face mask/Balacava and goggles recommended for summit.

Comments: A great day of hiking and socializing with four 2 legged friends and one four legged friend - Cody, the wonder dog of boundless enthusiasm, joy and energy. Cody also summited his first 4Ker. Had a little unexpected although very muted sunshine and tiny patches of blue skies now and again, but not at the summit. Summit slog was pretty much what one would expect above treeline in the Whites: one foot in front of the other, divining where the trail is/was as the wind blows away any trace of the previous adventurers.

When we arrived at the Glencliff/Carriage Rd junction, the Carriage Road, back to base, did not appear to be broken out since the last overnight snow; that changed in short order. Other direction to summit was broken out. We saw about 20 other hikers Sunday -- 7 were on telemark/backcountry skis, coming up the Carriage Road Trail. Everyone else was on snowshoes.
