Date of Hike: March 27 2011

Trail Conditions:
* Battell Trail - Snow is well packed and I only wore Microspikes and left Crampons and Snowshoes in the car. After hiking 2.0 Miles, I reached to Long Trail. No issue on this trail and car can go to the parking lot w/o any issue.

* Long Trail (South to North between Battell Trail and Jerusalem Trail) - From Battell Trail junction to Mt Abraham, LT is very clear and there was no issue to follow it. Right after Mt Abraham summit, foot prints are on and off. Especially for 2nd half distance between Mt Abraham and Mt Ellen are challenging to find out trail due to so many ski tracks everywhere. Many times, blazed don't exist (perhaps they are buried in snow), hard to find out foot prints. At the summit of Sugarbush, ski tracks are excessive.
After reaching and passing Mt Ellen summit, it's more challenging to follow LT.
Finally, we decided to go down West side of the mountain w/o reaching to the trail junction between LT and Jerusalem Trail. Based on the LT Topo map and GPS, we tried to reach and intersect Jerusalem Trail and finally we found it successfully.

* Jerusalem Trail - snow is very well packed and Microspikes are enough gear to use. There are large maple syrup collection piplelines are established around Jerusalem Trail which requires us to cross its pipeline a couple of times. Other than that, trail is easy to follow because of solid footprints.

Special Equipment Required: Microspike - essential (Snowshoes - Optional)

Comments:
* Lincoln Gap Road is closed in winter time (no snow is plowed) from approx 0.6 miles East from Lincoln Gap (=LT Trailhead) and there is a sign "No parking permitted".

* Appalachian Gap Road is open even in Winter time. (snow is well plowed, however, there is no foot prints at all which implies not many people starts or ends their hike at this point.)

Due to the above facts, we decided to use Battell Trail and Jerusalem Trail to cover 2 4000 footer mountains on a day hike.

It was very beautiful day to hike, although we had terribly cold wind.
We could see Mt Marcy at West side and Mt Washington and Presi Range at East from the summit of Mt Abraham.
