Trail Conditions: Recent snow (aprx 1 ft). A father-son pair headed out an hour before our party, and were breaking trail. On wider portions of the trail, packed portions were invisible. Snowdrifts on the Kilkenny ridge trail put hikers at eye level with tree branches, making that part difficult. Hard packed snow present on narrow portions of trail, but in warm temps, postholing occurred there as well. Most stream crossings are still intact. We didn't push past the cabot hut, due to the extreme snow depth on the summit ridge. The father-son team in front of us did, and reported that hiking was extremely difficult for the last portion.

Special Equipment Required: We had two hikers on backcountry skis, one on snowshoes. Due to snow depth, this was required. Warm snow temperatures covered skins in dense snow, making them useless. Postholing is possible, but not recommended.

Comments: The Fish Hatchery gate is fully plowed in, and would take a backhoe to close. Don't worry about getting locked inside.
