trails: ammonoosuc ravine trail, monroe loop, crawford path, tuckerman ravine trail tuckerman crossover, davis path, isolation trail, rocky branch trail, snowfields, bushwacks

conditions: ammo pretty well packed out. firm crust above treeline. used snowfields for direct route to monroe. bypassed most of monroe loop trail with snowfield to west to avoid ice on trail. mix of crusty snow and long stretches of ice to washington. again went up direct on snowfields, but trail proper looked good too. came off summit initially on tuckerman ravine trail on a good snow base then used a snowfield going southeast to head directly towards boot spur. lots of ice going towards boott spur once down on the lawn. davis path south of glen boulder junction free of snow until scrub line then deep soft snow and interesting route finding to north isolation where we were able to pretty much follow the trail before hitting a packed track coming up the gully south of the campsite knoll. packed to isolation and back down through engine hill bushwack to route 16. single water crossing on isolation trail still pretty well snowbridged.

equipment: wore snowshoes (and one wore microspikes) to monroe summit then switched to crampons on the summit and wore them until the glen boulder/davis path junction. barebooted/microspiked a short stretch and then snowshoes the rest of the day.

comments: a fantastic day. perfect spring conditions, nice temps and stellar views. neat to see all of the skiers in the ravines and on washingtons summit cone. thanks to sabrina, eric and megan for a great hike. extra props to megan for one of the more interesting first summits of isolation i've heard of. great day to be out.
