Trail Conditions:

Stony Brook Trail was hard packed, consolidated snow in the morning. It softened up in the afternoon. No postholes to speak of on a well broken out route. One blowdown to duck under. A few feet of snow from trailhead to ridge. The one main brook crossing was easily rock steppable.

Carter Moriah Trail was deep, hard packed snow for the most part which also softened through the day. No blowdowns, but constant brush/branches in the face and arms on the route, probably due to snow depth. Lots of side tracks off the main route on top of south cliffs. Some postholes.

Special Equipment Required: sunscreen, sunglasses, snowshoes pretty much essential. Microspikes useful on Stony Brook to the ridge early in the day, snowshoes rest of day.

Comments: Gorgeous day to nap on Moriah with views to the Northern Pressies and Washington, the Carters, Baldface, and the Wilderness areas to the east and south. Great day. Suprised not to see many people out at least on these trails.
