From the WMNF website:

Crawford-connector trailhead parking lot closed May 13, 2011. Prescribed fire activity planned for May 13; anticipate parking lot closure and possible smoky conditions.

I saw the field today below the parking area and wondered what had happened. It looks really horrible all blackened and burnt....

Last spring I mt biked a local trail (Modoc, SC) a week after a control burn. lots of logs still smoldering. About 4 miles out I came across this stump about 5ft high, 2 ft wide completely engulfed in flames. Have to say it was an eerie rid with all the charred earth however the trail (not much fuel) was a ribbon of brown.

A few weeks later the forest floor was covered with green.

This is Forks Area Trail System (37 miles of trails) about 10 days after a control burn a month back. This trail system is slowly becoming a mecca of mt biking in the southeast and 10 minutes from my house :)

@ Tim, yes fast and smooth! Hans Rey after riding F.A.T.S last year at the IMBA World Summit mentioned it was the best flowing trail in the US.

Some othe the other local "old school" trails are filled with rocks, roots and creek crossings. I love them. They have a slight New England flavor to them.
