July 2, 2011 - Little Jackson via Little Jackson and "Alt" Little Jackson trails
Trail Conditions: Little Jackson Trail in great shape. "Alt" Jackson trail is marked by cairns and well spaced red blazes from a point east of summit to a spur with weather measuring instrumentation. From there, it descends into the trees, becomes a lightly used herd path which disappears amidst blowdowns and a swamp.
Special Equipment Required: Sunscreen for the unlimited sunshine above treeline! Waterproof boots on Alt Trail due to wet grass and some boot sucking mud. I busted a trekking pole in that mud.
Comments: Another great hike on one of my favorite mountains. I do not recommend doing the Alt Trail unless you want to do some bushwhacking.
