Date of Hike: 7/17/2011
Trail Conditions: Very dry, everywhere. No mud, dry pond is dry, streams are dry, Chimney Pond is low (but you can get water of course, it just isn't as cold and refreshing as usual). Lots of new boardwalks, bog bridges in top shape. Hamlin Ridge is steep as usual, but nothing out of the ordinary condition-wise.
Special Equipment Required: Poles up to Chimney Pond, 4 working limbs for going up Hamlin Ridge. Sunscreen. Bug dope was completely unnecessary today.
Comments: Optional - Katahdin, while warm, was mercifully more comfortable than probably anywhere else in Maine today. Chimney Pond had such a cool breeze we chose to sit elsewhere to snack since we were getting chilly! Hamlin ridge was warm, summit down to Tableland was very nice, with said cool, steady breeze. Great hike and not a bad day in spite of 90+ temps everywhere else in NE.
This also marked my Maine 4k finish.
