There appears to be a double wide cleared path parallel to the cog what is that?

A power line, and possibly communications lines for the summit complex, were buried along side the Cog 2 or 3 years ago. That may be what you're seeing.

I haven't been there lately - is it all the way to the top?
Also, on the topic of the cog, has anybody noticed lately that the horn is blowing, it sounds like you're in downtown Boston? When I was in the Great Gulf area recently, all the honking and honking and honking just sounded like I was in the middle of a city. Those things sound like trucks!!!!!
