This northern section of the Caribou trail between the trail head at the end of Bog Rd and the Mud Brook trail junction seems to receive little use. I cleared many years of accumulated debris from the old water bars, but the trail still has a few boot sucking mud spots. One muddy area near the top is fairly large. 3 large blow downs, with moderately easy walk/climb arounds.

Special Equipment Required: I was glad to be breaking in a new pair of Gor-tex boots, my trail runners would have been quite wet by the end, and might still be stuck in the mud.

Despite the muddy spots, this is a beautiful, quiet trail. I expected to run into a moose but found only very large prints and droppings. The lower third follows old logging roads so the grades are pleasant while the upper section is rockier and more challenging. And the top of Caribou was beautiful as always. All stream crossings were easy
