J&J have described the Lincoln Woods Trail Destruction - Storm Irene. Yesterday I went for a walk (cannot call it a hike 
) on the other side of the river, on the Pemi East Side Trail. I was immediately warned of trouble ahead:
Steve Smith had told me that the Pine Island Trail was closed, and indeed it was:
I did not explore it, but continued and soon found the major damage:
Yes, there was a driveable road across that stream! Looking at the stream now makes you wonder how it could possibly have swollen enough to wash out the road:
In addition there are many areas of deep erosion:
