Date of Hike: 11/19-20 2011
Special Equipment Required: None
Comments: This is the newest section of the New England Trail that now extends from 1 mile north of I-95 in Guilford, CT to Mt. Monadnock. About 22 miles total over Sat and Sun. Dry, partly sunny both days. Highlight of trip was meeting Paul Mei, trail maintainer and original blazer. He painted the most perfect blue blazes and was instrumental in getting this trail named Menuntakuck, after a local Indian band rather than the Mattabesset or Guilford extension. He was cutting blowdowns and had evidence of the original blue paint on his utility belt. Mostly rolling and flat with a few ridges and a number of stream crossings. Last mile is not yet official and is marked with orange tape down to East River Park in Guilford
