When Sue and I hiked Franconia Ridge last Saturday I noticed something a little out of line.

In the White Mountain Guide, the names are Liberty Spring Trail and Liberty Spring Tentsite.

On the AMC White Mountain Guide Maps they are named Liberty Spring Trail and Liberty Spring Tentsite.

On the new trail sign they are identified as Liberty Springs Trail and Liberty Springs Campsite.

Here’s a photo of the new sign.

Is there a chance this sign will be a hot item at a future AMC trail sign auction?

Does anybody know the correct names?

Does it really matter?

This is the official Federal registry:

http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispu...1_FNAME,P1_STATE:Liberty Spring,New Hampshire

One singular, one plural!

Interesting. Thanks.

Along with singular vs plural there is tentsite vs campsite.

I assume the AMC is involved with the signs and would expect they (the signs) would agree with the various AMC publications - (both printed and digital).

Evidently, this is not necessarily the case.

I checked and found the printed AMC material I have and the White Mountain Guide Online agree.

Originally there was a shelter so it was LS Shelter

Then tent platforms were added so it was LS Campsite

I suppose now that the shelter is gone it could be LS Tentsite(s)

I had to go back and look at some photos from 2008.
This photo has what appears to be the previous version of the sign in your photo and its Springs for both trail and campsite:

A little further up at the split for the Flume Slide Trail its Spring

I like Chip's idea of using it as a verb - makes me think of Chevy Chase imitating Gerald R Ford: "Liberty Spring!"
