Mostly well drained with the occasional muddy mountain bike patch and a couple of areas with active seeps. Amazingly, no down limbs!

Beautiful day with sunset slightly after 4pm. Beautiful terrain! This was our first hike here as we didn't know about the new (2005) longer Friends' Trail connecting the Damon Pond and Pearl Hill campgrounds. The trail is extremely well tagged, which is very important because there are lots of crossing trails. There are no trail maps at the trail heads, which is confusing even with DCR map in hand. DCR map is perhaps misleading with regard to fine details, for instance, the blue trail and orange Friends' Loop run together in several places, and there are extensive switchbacks in the Friends' Trail above Vinton Pond Road. This is why there are so many warnings about the hike time - the trail is much longer than the way it reads on the map. We took three hours from Damon Pond to Vinton Pond Road and return via Friends' Loop. Beautiful!!!
