Date of Hike: 17 December 2011
Trail conditions:
Lonesome Lake Trail was well packed snow as was around the lake. Fishin' Jimmy Trail was packed down but less so. A few inches on the ground overall.
Lonesome Lake is not yet safe to cross.
Gear:
I wore microspikes from the hut up to Kinsman Pond and back out and my partner had them on all day. Hard to call them necessary but we would have worked harder w/out them. Cold weather gear was/is necessary.
Comments:
Winter is here temperature-wise. Cold. Cold. Even the minor winds near the Lake, Pond, and in the Notch were heat-stealing. A great day. It is back. Occasional interesting views of Franconia Ridge - Flume, Liberty and Little Haystack were visible below the clouds but the summits of Lincoln and Lafayette were hidden. Thanks for the great company J!
