The lack of snow is depressing.. maybe 2-3" at the WHP summit and Northern Lites were carried as if it would somehow appease the snow gods, but they stayed on the pack and I barebooted up and back. I have more snow in my backyard than what fell on the summit fri-sat. :(

My friend did use microspikes as it was certainly fairly icy if not for the layer of snow on top of it. The Elm Ridge trail from the Peck Road trailhead was particularly a sheet of ice but gradual enough that I was fine without any traction aids.

Wonderful warm, sunny, calm winds day after a storm (not uncommon) so it was surprising that we ran into only 1 group of 4 on the summit and had the trailhead to ourselves.

Trailhead: Peck Rd
Route: out and back, stop at the leanto to pack out some garbage
Microspikes useful but not necessary. Snowshoes are silly.
