Crocker Mt. Land Protected

Don't think I saw this posted yet. Some land on Crocker Mt. in the Carrabassett Valley is coming under protection. Article mentions some other land going into a conservation easment, but does not say if the Crocker land will be a fee sale or CE. Hopefully more details will be available including a map.

Thanks for the info on my favorite mountain area of new england!
I wonder if Sugarloaf has their eyes on more ski trails in that area?The area must be on the right as you head down the c.v.r.below the Crocker cirque..

Hmmmm. The article states:

"The lands are part of a working forest owned by Plum Creek..."

I wonder if the road(s) will ever be maintained again, if the logging industry pulls out.

Sugarloaf almost certainly has no interest in that side at all. They're in the midst of a vast expansion onto Burnt Mountain, creating glades and what's called "sidecountry" terrain (as opposed to backcountry) as logging operations take place. You can see the expansion here:

It's called Brackett Basin. We skied it last year, just the initial section of phase 1, and it was some extremely righteous tree skiing.
