We lead a fairly large group to Panther yesterday. It was icy pretty much all the way. Some wore microspikes, some crampons. None wore snowshoes.

Great views from the ledges and the summit.

There are a few places, especially heading down Giant Ledge to Panther, that the ice is the worst. A short whack to the right avoided most of it.

We bumped into Timmus on her way to the summit, which she climbed to become the newest member of the 3500 Club! Congrats, Julie! :D

We had a minor scare when we returned to Giant Ledge. A young man asked us if we had seen a solo male hiker heading towards Panther. When we said no, he explained that one of his friends had become separated from their group. The man speaking had a small pack, but it was all the gear the 4 people had. They had all managed to bare boot (slowly!) up to Giant Ledge. We discussed what we might do to help, and then headed down. Fortunately, we soon 'found' the 'lost' companion heading back up to G.L. :) The 4 individuals regrouped and leap-frogged us while descending to the turn off that leads back to the parking lot. In spite of the large yellow arrow pointing to the right, they continued along the road that leads to the Winnisook Club. I yelled to them to turn around, which they did. They eventually made it back safely to their car. So did we! :D
