Lauky and I left from the Flume center parking lot. The bike path/snowmobile path is well packed. Considered doing the whack but took a quick look at the river crossing and decided to go via the bridges. Liberty Spring trail is packed like concrete. One fairly easy duck under on that trail. The stream crossings were bridged. Franconia Ridge trail also well packed. The ledges below Liberty on the Flume side were well covered with snow and made for a very easy passage.

The Flume slide trail has been broken out, but not consolidated. The Osseo trail was well consolidated although especially higher up not the concrete path that Liberty Springs trail is. The stairs/ladders on Osseo are completely covered with snow. Some steps in the snow have been kicked out by hikers and I was able to get down them without much difficulty today. This section could be difficult with a few inches of fresh powder on the trail. The rest of the trail below the steeps can only be described as sweet. It's one of the nicest trails in the Whites.

The Lincoln Woods trail is also in great condition. There is enough snow to cover the railroad ties and it is well packed out--smooth and flat with almost no ice.

The morning started off somewhat nippy with temps around 15* at the car. With the rising sun the temps went into the mid 20s most of the way up and on the ridge. As we descended Osseo the temps rose to about 40* Nevertheless there was no problem with balling or postholing today. The snowshoes came along for the ride. Used the Hillsounds from car to car.

It was good talking with Stumblehome today. He was the only person we saw until we reached the Lincoln Woods trail.
